Farley 9.6 Fat Bike Review
Anthem Advanced Pro 29 3 is a powerful cross-country race bike. This 29er, designed with a full composite frameset, has 110mm of suspension travel up front and 100mm at the rear. Shorter chainstays are possible thanks to the single-pivot, linkage-driven FlexPoint Pro rear suspension, which enhances climbing efficiency and overall agility. New 29er-specific XC race geometry with a longer reach and a slacker headtube angle, as well as a lightweight, strong composite wheelset for rapid, accurate handling, are further improvements.

If you prefer to ride quickly rather than just get through the winter, the Farley 9.6 is ideal for you. You adore fat riding in all of its forms, and you want to have more fun and participate on bigger adventures and more challenging races. A thin, horizontal sliding dropout OCLV Mountain Carbon frame, a rigid Bontrager Haru carbon fork, a wide-range SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain with an extra-low climbing gear, a dropper post for descending, SUNringlé Mulefüt wheels with a 108T Rapid Drive hub for instant engagement, and wide, ultra-grippy Bontrager Barbegazi TLR tyres. The revolutionary Stranglehold sliding dropout design, also seen on the Stache, with a full 15 mm of adjustment, is one of the secrets to its adaptability. Axle and calliper mount integration makes wheel swaps simple while enabling user-adjustable chainstay length for various usage and wheel sizes. Both the new carbon fibre frame, which weighs 1,325 gram, and the new Alpha aluminium frame feature it (a claimed 1,935 grams). According to Trek, the Farley 9.6 with a rigid carbon fork is the company’s lightest model, weighing only 23 pounds.
Features
OCLV Mountain Carbon Frame
A lightweight, horizontal sliding dropout OCLV Mountain Carbon frame, a rigid Bontrager Haru carbon fork, a wide-range SRAM GX Eagle drivetrain with an extra-low climbing gear, a dropper post for descending, SUNringlé Mulefüt wheels with a 108T Rapid Drive hub for instant engagement, and wide, ultra-grippy Bontrager Barbegazi TLR tyres.
Geometry
With tight 440mm chainstays—15mm shorter than the Specialized Fatboy—a somewhat long reach, a low bottom bracket, and a relatively lax 69-degree head tube angle, the Farley 9.6’s forward-looking frame geometry only enhances its athletic appearance. The result is outstanding stability at higher speeds but impressive agility at reduced speeds, just like with similarly forward-thinking trail bikes.
Barbegazi 27.5˝ Fat Tires
For double track terrain, Barbegazi is an excellent snow tyre tread. You can quickly move ahead of the bunch when you pedal Barbegazi on the double-track paths.
You will be able to overtake other riders who were slowed down by the more aggressive tyre pattern intended for groomed single track thanks to the reduced tread’s reduced rolling resistance. Depending on your chosen riding paths, the weather, and future race courses, pay particular attention to this.
The Farley 9.6 would roll at the speed of the wind and would offer the required traction without introducing extraneous rolling resistance. The Farley 9.6’s extremely quick climbing abilities and solid frame, however, would make me proud to ride it if I were competing on a primarily single-track race course. I would also mount a 26″ x 4.7″ tyre with a more aggressive sidewall tread. When Bontrager introduces the following tyre that pursues sidewall tread for maximum single track cutting, I think the Farley 9.6 will fulfil its full potential.
Rapid Drive 108 Rear Hub
Trek has also included their adjustable Stranglehold dropouts in this most recent version of the Farley. The wheel is installed in the most forwards position right out of the box, but you can easily draw it out to a more generous 460mm if you want a longer rear end for greater stability.
Oh! What a feeling
The 77mm-wide (internal width) Wampa hookless and tubeless-ready rims, the 720mm-wide Bontrager Race X Lite bars and matching seatpost, and the rails on the Bontrager Montrose saddle are all made by Trek using the same black magic pixie dust as the frame and fork. Trek even specifies Race Face’s incredibly light Next SL carbon crankset and ESI silicone foam rubber grips as additional efforts to outperform the scale.
You may ride outside all year round on this four-season freedom vehicle.
You feel more confident riding on any trail thanks to the stability and traction of extra wide tyres.
This bike won’t be slowed down by bad weather, heavy snow, or difficult terrain thanks to its lightweight carbon frame and fork.
When descending, the dropper post enables you to quickly lower your saddle out of the way.
You can fine-tune your geometry using horizontal sliding dropouts by running it long for stability or short for more agile handling.

Our Rating
Speed throughout the year. The Farley 9.6 is quick, light, and made to rip. For those who respect the performance benefit of carbon and enjoy exploring on their fat bikes, year-round outdoor training, and winter shredding, this is the perfect sled.
Farley 9.6 is a good option if you’re searching for a year-round, lightweight, stylish, well-equipped, and easy to climb fat-bike. For groomed single track riding, I would advise investing in a second 26-inch tyre pair with aggressive sidewall tread to up the carvelicious factor. Installing a suspension fork is something to think about for the summer; the weight gain wouldn’t be significant, but I think the riding quality would be excellent.
