Ultralight OCLV Carbon Frame
Trek uses their ‘800 series OCLV carbon lay-up’ for the frame.
Trek’s 800 series OCLV carbon uses cutting-edge technologies to improve the material’s aerodynamics and physical characteristics.
They employ this specially made composite on the Trek Madone SLR 7 eTap. Because aerodynamic tube forms are heavier and less rigid than conventional, spherical tubes, Trek claims to use a very high-quality carbon-resin composite. In comparison to an OCLV 700 frame, this translates in a weight decrease of slightly under 10%, with the SLR frame made from OCLV 800 weighing in at just 698 g. The greater the number after the OCLV, the lighter the material.
Due to the new material’s astounding 30 percent increase in strength over previous OCLV Carbon while maintaining the same stiffness, less material is required to offer the same riding qualities.
Geometry and Comfort
Madone features a few changes to improve the comfort of the ride. It gets a Goldilocks-style makeover in terms of shape. Between the tight H2 endurance geometry and the aggressive H1 geometry, there is a geometry known as H1.5. We could easily ride for hours in this posture, despite the fact that it is obviously more aerodynamic. The adjustable top tube IsoSpeed, a concept originally developed for the Domane spring classics race bike, is the following comfort feature for the Madone.
Hydraulic Disc Brakes
With the head tube flaps (Vector Wings, in Trek lingo), specially created integrated brakes are connected to disc brakes.
The Madone SLR with rim brakes is still available from Trek. In fact, it is one of the few companies still selling rim brakes; most of its competitors have switched over to disc brakes for their most recent aero bikes.
The hydraulic disc brakes are simple to use and didn’t need any maintenance while I had the bike. There is enough of power, and the lever feel is ideal for smoothly dispensing the power in any circumstance.
Increased tyre clearance, which supports 28mm tyres, is a benefit of disc brakes. If you wish to improve comfort, that is a good choice. The Madone’s rim brakes may accommodate tyres up to 25mm in diameter.
