Long-travel carbon electric mountain bike Rail 9.7 gets you reach the fun stuff more quickly. It is constructed with the same trail-specific technology and feels and rides exactly like our raucous trail bikes. The difference is that the robust Bosch drive system accelerates up climbs, allowing you to spend more time getting rad and less time grinding.

If you want a very capable long-travel e-MTB that is designed to handle technical runs and significant drops, this is the bike for you. To reach more descents faster, you need the light weight and responsive riding of an OCLV Mountain Carbon frame. The Trail 9.7 is equipped with a Bosch Performance Line CX 250W motor, a 160mm RockShox Domain fork, a 150mm of rear travel with a RockShox Deluxe Select+ shock, and an OCLV Mountain Carbon frame that completely encases a 625Wh battery. Powerful 4-piston brakes for assured descents, a 1×12 Shimano SLX/XT drivetrain, a Bontrager Line dropper post, and tubeless-ready Bontrager Line Comp 30 29er wheels with sealant are all included.

Features

OCLV Carbon Frame

When compared to metallic materials, a well-constructed carbon frame significantly saves weight while preserving the strength and stiffness required by high performance bicycles and the riders that ride them. This is where Trek’s OCLV Carbon process, which stands for “Optimum Compaction Low Void,” comes into play. Starting with the best material available, OCLV Carbon frames are made. Trek has perfected the manufacturing of numerous weights and types of carbon fibre over the course of countless development hours (cloth, unidirectional, etc.).

Bosch Performance Line CX motor

With up to 85Nm of torque and a sophisticated eMTB mode with Extended Boost that automatically varies the amount of assist according on the terrain, the Bosch Performance Line CX sets the bar for eMTB performance.

250 watts of power and 85 Nm of torque are claimed for the Bosch Performance CX motor. When you push the pedals, it reacts almost immediately and offers a decent range of assistance thanks to the four output levels of the system. The bike was simple to accelerate to its 20 mph top speed, and switching between output settings was straightforward.

The four modes, Eco, Tour, eMTB, and Turbo, provide 60, 140, 240, and 340% support, respectively.

Shimano Hydraulic Disc Brakes

Shimano experts can fine-tune the suspension’s response to accelerating and braking forces separately thanks to Active Braking Pivot. This means that when you need it most, you have more assured control.

Shimano Deore BL-M6100 hydraulic disc brake lever delivers quick, intuitive brake engagement with a shorter free stroke; fully rider-tunable so you can ride focused on the trail ahead. The Shimano Deore M6120 caliper features consistent braking performance and reliable stopping power in all conditions. The 4-piston caliper instills greater downhill confidence and control.

These should let you to brake effectively in all weather conditions and offer you the assurance to tackle slick terrain and steep descents without worrying about slipping.

Removable Integrated Battery & Range

RIB is a one-piece battery and cover with a built-in handle that can easily be removed and re-installed in the frame with no tools and no hassle. It’s the most convenient way to remove your battery for transport, security, or just easier charging.

This bike’s battery has a 625Wh capacity, and it appears to use its power fairly effectively. The Rail performed admirably in our normal range test as well as on trail rides of varying lengths.

Check out Bosch’s range calculator to determine how far you can travel on an electric mountain bike with one charge. You can make changes to achieve your most precise estimate even if we’ve pre-filled the data for this bike model and the typical rider. Calculate your range here.

Active Braking Pivot

Allows our engineers to tune how the suspension reacts to acceleration and braking forces independently. That means you get more confident control when you need it most.

Custom eMTB Lite mode

Instead of a Tour mode, Trek eMTBs have a unique eMTB Lite mode. You get longer battery life and more natural-feeling power delivery.

Oh! What a feeling

You can view ride information like support level, speed, battery life, and more on the full-color Bosch Kiox display that is located on the top tube.

With the Bosch motor, you have plenty of power to climb steep slopes efficiently and continue exploring all day. You can maximize every ride with the help of user-friendly features like Walk Assist and eMTB mode.

Trek’s Removable Integrated Battery (RIB) system is incredibly user-friendly and stylish; it allows you to mount a water bottle cage and completely conceals the battery in the frame for protection.

Made with the same aggressive frame technology as Remedy, including Active Braking Pivot, Straight Shot down tube for added rigidity, and Mino Link adjustable geometry (ABP)

Our Rating

In terms of carbon performance and incredible value, Rail 9.7 excels. You can push it through the tough stuff and have it motor back up for another run because it is equipped with high-quality trail-specific parts and a strong Bosch drive system.

The enjoyable, all-around eMTB Rail 9.7 has a lot going for it. It offers an impressive range due to its 625Wh capacity and strong Bosch motor. With 4 output settings to fit your demands and the terrain, it has a powerful power output. It readily rallies uphill and favours a potent point-and-shoot strategy. Additionally, it is a secure and well-placed descender with all the features of contemporary geometry and flip-chip customizable geometry to suit your preferences. We thought its display and controls were a little odd, and while riding over the chatter, there was an unnerving rattle emanating from the battery or motor. It’s fun to ride, and Rail 9.7 is a stylish, adaptable ride that deserves attention.
