Features
If speed is important to you and you want an aero frame that performs, you’ll adore this bike. The 12-speed Force eTap AXS fully wireless electronic drivetrain from SRAM offers the accuracy, predictability, and smoother gear progression you desire.
With Kammtail Virtual Foil aerodynamic tube shaping, Adjustable Top Tube IsoSpeed road-smoothing technology, and invisible cable routeing, this ultra-aero frame is our lightest-ever 800 Series OCLV carbon. Tubeless-ready Bontrager Aeolus Pro 5 carbon wheels, a 2×12 SRAM Force eTap AXS wireless electronic drivetrain, an SRAM Force AXS power metre, and hydraulic disc brakes are also included. The aero bar and stem are also adjustable.
Ultralight OCLV Carbon Frame
Trek uses their ‘800 series OCLV carbon lay-up’ for the frame.
Utilizing cutting-edge technology, Trek’s 800 series OCLV carbon optimizes both the material’s aerodynamics and its properties.
On the Trek Madone SLR 7 eTap, they use this specifically created composite. Trek asserts that they employ a very high-quality carbon-resin composite because aerodynamic tube forms are heavier and less rigid than standard, spherical tubes. This results in a weight reduction of just under 10% when compared to an OCLV 700 frame, with the SLR frame manufactured from OCLV 800 weighing in at just 698 g. The lighter the material, the higher the number after the OCLV.
Groupset
The Force eTap AXS wireless electronic groupset from SRAM is hefty, yet it performs admirably.
Although Shimano’s new 212 Dura-Ace and Ultegra groupsets are now about on level, overall shift performance is superb, with smooth and consistent chain movement at both ends and greater range than we’ve always expected from traditional road transmissions.
SRAM’s eTap shift button actuation is the greatest in the market, and undoubtedly the most forward-thinking. While the aesthetics of the lever are divisive, the ergonomics are incomparable. However, it is still not nearly as quiet as what you can get from Shimano or Campagnolo.
Hydraulic Disc Brakes
The hydraulic disc brakes are quite good; they modulate more easily and with a softer initial grasp than Shimano calipers. And points to Trek for specifying 160 mm rotors front and rear in addition to the basic dual-sided power meter, given the greater speeds riders are expected to hit on this thing.

Our Rating
The SRAM Force AXS drivetrain distinguishes the Madone SLR from other models despite its aerodynamic design and light weight. A 12-speed cassette, a wireless electronic shifter, and an SRAM Force AXS power meter all improve performance.
Comfort is one area that aero bikes have made huge strides in in recent years, and the Madone is no exception. It’s easily rideable all day.
